‘Stoudemire’s Downtown’ featuring Executive Chef Eddie Matney To Become New Dining, Entertainment & Tourist Hot Spot Next To US Airways Center, Hard Rock Cafe

Phoenix, AZ – Phoenix has always been a magnet for the famous. But for Downtown Phoenix, a dream-team restaurant is set to emerge, adding an ace to the Valley’s hand of celebrity-owned restaurants.

The state’s most recognized athlete, Amaré Stoudemire, the most recognized chef, Eddie Matney and one of the most recognized mover-and-shakers in the tourism industry, Bill Smith, are poised for the opening of ‘Stoudemire’s Downtown’ at 3 South 2nd Street – joining celebrity haunts such as Majerle’s (which opened in 1992) and Alice Cooperstown. (1998). And mixing sports metaphors one might also observe that downtown Phoenix will offer a “dining hat trick” when it comes to celebrity haunts.

Stoudemire’s marks the first famous fare addition in eight years, and most notably, a joint venture of the most celebrated chef in Arizona with the most impressive athlete.
“Creating an all-star restaurant with an all-star chef will definitely appeal to all my friends when they visit,” said Stoudemire. “This will be downtown dining and entertainment at its very best.”

This will be the first restaurant enterprise for Stoudemire, the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2002, an Olympian in 2004, and an NBA All Star in 2004-2005. The 6’10”, 245-lb. power forward, who is currently recovering from pre-season knee surgery, is widely regarded as the next superstar of the National Basketball Association. After playing against him, Shaquille O’Neal said, “I have seen the future of basketball, and his name is Amare Stoudemire.”

“The time is right for Downtown Phoenix to rise to the occasion and present a high style venue that’s synonymous with a major sports and dining out city," said Matney, one of America’s most celebrated chefs. “And with Amaré, there's no bigger name with the cache to draw the level of guests that we feel Stoudemire's Downtown can draw. I'm proud to be part of this exciting new venture.”

"Amaré is famous for his slam dunks and there’s no question what a slam dunk this is for downtown Phoenix,” said Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. “This will be a welcome and exciting gathering place for so many -- and another sign that Phoenix truly is on the rise. As Chairman of the Phoenix Convention Bureau, Bill Smith has been telling the world that Downtown Phoenix is where the action is. By investing here, the world now knows Bill Smith isn’t kidding."

Stoudemire’s Downtown will offer multi-media capabilities and Wi-fi, dance floor, billiards, and full accommodations for business meetings and banquets. The restaurant is only a few blocks from US Airways Center, Chase Field, the Arizona Center and the Phoenix Convention Center.

"I'm thrilled to have Amaré and Eddie as my partners for our new venture,” said Smith. “Stoudemire's Downtown will be a welcomed edition to this vibrant area, with great food, music and celebrity sightings right across the street from the home of the Phoenix Suns. It's where city officials and businessmen sit for a power lunch next to in-town tourists who want to touch the magic of the Stoudemire brand and enjoy award-winning chef Eddie Matney’s famous cuisine."
